Blog:Courageous kid leaves hospital after donati

Sunday, February 28, 2010 | 9:48 pm

The brave young boy MBT who donated bone marrow to save the life of his dangerously ill mother was discharged from hospital yesterday.

Shao Shuai, the 12-year-old boy from Xuzhou in Jiangsu province, has regained his appetite following the operation and was smiling yesterday.

“I feel good now, and so does   ghd hair straighteners my mother,” the 12-year-old told METRO yesterday afternoon as he tucked into a bowl of rice and kungpao chicken.

The boy’s mother, Shao Dan, 42, is in a stable condition and under close observation, said Wu Tong, the doctor in charge of the marrow transplant operation.

Shao Dan, who divorced Shao Shuai’s father when the boy was one year old, came to Beijing alone six years ago to find work. She was diagnosed with leukemia at the end of 2008. Shao Shuai and his grandma journeyed to Beijing last July to ghd take care of her, at which point Shao Shuai took a year out of school.

The 12-year-old said he knew his role the   ghd hair straighteners moment he was told his bone marrow could save his mother’s life.

“My blood came from her, so it is right that it now runs through her,” Shao Shuai said.

In addition to the life-saving marrow, financial donations have been plentiful. By Sunday, more than 300,000 yuan was given by individuals, enterprises and charity groups. Among them, a Beijing couple came to Daopei Hospital on Wednesday to   ghd straighteners donate 100,000 yuan.

Yesterday was the traditional Lantern Festival, which this year was particularly special for Shao’s family. Many Beijing citizens made the trip to their hospital room to offer some company on the day – some teachers have even invited Shao Shuai to study  ghd in Beijing at their schools.

Dang Guoying, Shao Shuai’s 73-year-old grandma, was also deeply touched.

“I don’t know what to say except ‘thank you’. Thank you to everyone who treated us so well,” she said yesterday.

“Shao Shuai told me he wanted to donate    ghd straighteners the fruit, nutritional food, and milk that people sent us to orphans in Beijing. We were given love and we want more people to share in it,” Dang said.

Blog: Beijing is a treasure trove for secondhand book collectors

Sunday, February 28, 2010 | 9:24 pm

A 1957 edition of ghd  Philosopher Zhang Dainian’s An Outline of Chinese Philosophy is one of book collector Feng Kechen’s favorites among his collection of secondhand books.

Feng is an engineer of Nokia China Research Center in Beijing and a book-addict who spends every weekend he has free browsing the used bookstores around town.

He has been collecting secondhand books since 1991, his passion fired by the purchase of a copy of the periodical Reading first published by  MBT SDX Joint Publishing Company in 1979.

Feng is planning to send his An Outline of Chinese Philosophy to Tsinghua University, as he has discovered that the university’s Zhang Dainian archive does not yet include the book.

As Feng says, one of the joys of collecting secondhand books is being able to share them with other book lovers, as the value of books lies in using and reading it.

“Like Feng Kechen, most gold-seekers at secondhand book markets belong to the frontline of intellectuals, aged from 30 to 50.  ghd hair straighteners A love of reading is their hallmark, said Hu Bin, who is better known as Hu Tong, who founded Booyee.com in 2001 – one of first online secondhand book stores in China.

Many factors such as author, contents, publishing date, times of printing, and historical significance contribute to a book’s desirability as a    ghd hair straighteners collectable, and to its price.

The original price tag is no longer a judgment of a book. A book with a price tag of 0.05 yuan may be worth hundreds of yuan, while some best-selling books tagged at scores of yuan commonly sell at 1 yuan on the secondhand market.

However, a highly sought after and prized used book can be priced as high as thousands of yuan.

One book in Hu’s collection, is just such a treasure,   ghd straighteners  the book is not intrinsically valuable, its worth comes from this particular copy’s history: it was read by Xu Xiangqian on the road of the Long March, and has inscriptions on flyleaves and notes in margins.

However, such treasures are not something you come across every day. Because of the small number of good used books, used book dealers   ghd straighteners find it hard to stay in business and secondhand book fairs are shrinking. Wudaokou’s used book market disappeared in 2000 and there is only one regular used book market in town.

Price increases are another factor. “Before 2001, secondhand books were usually charged at 0.01yuan per spread. The development of the Internet, and the  ghd  increasing online demand for such books, has pushed their prices up to a point, where they now range from 5 yuan to 400 or 500 yuan.”

But Beijing is still a vibrant secondhand wonderland, thanks to its long history, and the fact it houses the largest number of institutions, universities and research centers in China.

It is all in the Jeans

Sunday, February 28, 2010 | 8:23 pm

Yesterday,I went out for a day of thrift store shopping with the singulargoal to buy myself a pair of Seven jeans. I find zero pleasure in clothes shopping not like the sterotypical American woman. I actually derive negative pleasure in clothing shopping. The net outcome of this is that I intend to err on the side of not having enough clothing, particularly with pants.
So a clothing shopping did I go.
I took a shine to the mini-van in the direction of a hipster neighborhood, as I figured that the donations would be better.
My first stop was the Goodwill thrift shop, where I found 3 pairs of True Religion Jeans that looked like they might fit. (Seven Jeans shopping does make me feel like I have body dysmorphic syndrome, as almost every pair is either way too small or way too big!) One pair even had a black tag, which meant it was half price. I went into the dressing room without much faith, but came out with a smile on my face and a half-off pair of jeans slung over my arm. And not just any jeans, but a perfectly fitting pair of brand new looking Levi’s mid-rise boot cut True Religion Jeans, which in case you were wondering — are not mom jeans.
And the price? 3.49 dollars. Cause yeah, they’re the half price pair.

Next stop was a thrift store that prices their clothes less than Goodwill, (add I had a gift certificate) and though I did bring 2 pairs of Seven for mankind into the dressing room, I did not find anything that either was the type I had in mind or fit.
Some times it is all in the Seven for mankind.
Do you ever purchase second hand clothes? If so, ghd what was your greatest score? Please share your tale in the comments section below.

Levi Strauss’s jeans

Sunday, February 28, 2010 | 8:21 pm

A Jewish boy named Loeb Strauss was born in a cottage in the Bavarian village of Buttenheim…on 26/12/1829,
Loeb wound up in California where he opened a textile company in San Francisco and changed his name to Levi as a young man. One day a gold miner walked into Levi’s shop and assailed the young merchant. the miner, pointing to the pants said“See these,” . “I bought them 6 months ago, and now they are full of holes!”
The miner explained when Levi asked why, “We work on our knees most of the time.”
Levi replied “What you need is some really strong material,” . “We have some canvas. It is used to make tents. I am sure they will not get holes if we make your True Religion Jeans out of canvas.”
A tailor was called, and presently the miner had a set of pants — and the rest is history. Soon minors across the West were wearing Levi Strauss’s Seven for mankind. (Stephen Van Dulken)
THOUGHT: Christians should have the same issues that plagued that miner —Seven Jeans with worn-out knees — for we should do most of our kingdom work on our knees.
“I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ for this reason ” ghd (Eph. 3:14).

Gap’s Comeback Strategy: Jeans for Life

Sunday, February 28, 2010 | 8:19 pm

Gap (GPS) will back to its jeans roots, with a twist: It wants to put its customers in its Seven jeans from birth until, well, the final fade-out.
Gap can’t thrive on Seven for mankind alone. Its comeback is still far from assured even though it succeeds, though.
Gap declared a new 1969 Premium Denim collection made particularly for babyGap yesterday. The collection is styled to match the corporation’s adult True Religion Jeans for those Gap fans who want to dress themselves like kids or to dress their kids like themselves. The collection even comprise 5-pocket Seven Jeans, something the corporation considers a baby staple. What infants are going to carry in that fifth pocket wasn’t revealed.
But they won’t have to break in their True Religion Jeans at least. Gap designers have re-engineered the adult jeans with and a softer fabric and a more accommodating fit to keep its tiniest customers comfy. The retailer plans to launch a new mix each season. And in the autumn, Gap is going to unveil a collection of 1969 Premium Denim for children and toddlers. The goal: to provide “a seamless transition from baby to kids to adult.”
The Seven for mankind-for-kids strategy was a logical step following the successful launch last year of the 1969 Premium Denim linethat helped to boost shop sales and traffic. And Gap clearly is getting some traction from 1969 Premium Denim expansion and its work with Stella McCartney. Her second collection, coming in March, is going to migrate into GapKids and babyGap,too.
But Citigroup analyst Kimberly Greenberger, a Gap believer who raised the corporation’s share rating to purchase recently, noticed that although denim’s strength, sales of basic trend items are still weak. It is too soon to say that the apparel chain is dressed for ghd success.

Mom Jeans

Saturday, February 27, 2010 | 3:07 am

WalletPop wonders ,”What do Pajama Seven jeans say about Americans?” “Do we really need sweatpants which look like Seven for mankind but are really pajamas? Is America that lazy? Or stupid enough to spend 40 dollars on them?”,Aaron Crowe asks.
I have only heard one person express interest in the product. Althrough I have been told on Twitter and emails:
“Why can not people just wear their regular clothing out of the house and their pajamas to sleep in? It is worked for quite sometime before now.”
“Who knew the velour jumpsuit would have competition in the lazy category. Does it come with a box of bon bons?”
“Are you Seriously? What is next? Extended wear condoms?”
“See how the
Seven Jeans look and how comfy they really are. Also where the True Religion Jeans hit on your body.”
“How could anybody cinch those monstrosities any higher?”
“That is just wrong on more levels than I can count. ”
“Somebody shoot me whether I ever even mention puchaseing these goods!”
“They are one notch up the Trend Crime ladder from slipper socks.”
Joe Posnanski who from Sports Illustrated may offer the best analysis. He writes. “Well, first of all, they are not really pajamas,” “To be perfectly blunt, that is a tough flaw to overlook.”
But Posnanski has an excellent mind for marketing the goods—goal men. Posnanski writes,”Have a commercial with a regular looking person,”, “He keeps hammering the snooze button on his alarm clock. And then he looks up (shock!), he is late again. Oh man, the boss is going to fire him for sure this time! This’s the starting plotline to 42 percents of all film comedies, so it should be familiar. What will he do? Well, it just so happens that this time, Jim is wearing his Pajama Seven for mankind. So he just throws on some shoes and socks, maybe a new shirt…and rushes to the office, makes it just on time. The boss gives him a raise. The people in the office say ‘Jim,looking sharp today.’ The interesting TV female feels HIS True Religion Jeans due to they are so soft. Now, that is a TV goods people can believe in.”ghd

Taking Mom Jeans to the Next Level

Saturday, February 27, 2010 | 3:04 am

Women and Seven jeans are not a match made in heaven.
We pay out our whole lives trying to find Seven for mankind that fit, True Religion Jeans that do not make us look fat, Seven Jeans that might in fact be comfy.
We are often faced with one of two main types options: low rise jeans—a type that has outlasted even my most apocalyptic predictions—or “Mom True Religion Jeans“, where the waist is so high you look like you have a gut even though you do not. Low-rise jeans have created a national crisis of “muffin tops”. Mom jeans make anybody wearing them look 4 months pregnant.
It is not beautiful.
We still keep trying on True Religion Jeans
Seven for mankind and purchasing them…skinnies, boot cut, jeggings. Some women who have given up the battle now prefer to wear pajama bottoms in public. Recently,A Tesco market in Wales forbidden that stylish choice.

Now, in the latest sign that American trend is going the way of the Greek economy, one product combines pajamas and jeans: Pajama Jeans.
They take ‘Mom jeans’ to the next level.
The Pajama Jeans video ad says,”They are surprisely comfy but let you look put together all day long,” , as you see models caress their covered thighs.
“Put your best self out there.”
The jeans, which cost 39.95 dollars(which includes a free T-shirt for “an entire outfit”), are made from spandex and cotton, with “all the detailing of your best-loved jeans…they look like they were made by some European designer.”

Christina Boyle who is New York Daily News reporter put on a pair and took them out for a walk to get public reaction. An online poll at the newspaper shows people favoring the jeans by a 2-1 margin. Boyle quotes Sandra Markus who is a professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology,”These days pajamas with the whole yoga influence are just casual wear . And jeans … they are ubiquitous. They are entirely accepted, so why not as pajamas?”ghd

Jeans and Khakis

Saturday, February 27, 2010 | 2:58 am

Now, let us talk about trend.I am really not good in this trend thingy but let us just try.I dress up Seven jeans since i do not know when. Most of my relatives and my family are wearing Seven Jeansuntil now even they are married and pregnant. Yeah, jeans is so comfort and casual to wear around the world. I guess. But the Canadian happened to inquire me ” how come Malaysian wearing Seven for mankind in the fairly hot weather??”And tell the truth, I never think about it until she asked me. I do not even know that they are not wearing jeans if the weather is hot. And how should I know, I have just been outside Malaysia once..Indonesia..haihAnd talking about True Religion Jeans, since I wearing jeans almost everyday in my life if I am going out with friends, special dinner with en. Kanda,go to office, going lab etc etc, i kinda feel boring and tried to get out from this comfort zone. I tried a few trousers before but all not really suit me well and i do not feel comfy wearing then so i come back to my True Religion Jeans again T_THowever, i found the answer of my problem this February when I got 30 percents birthday card from Padini and co for my birthday on normal price item. YEAY!!At first, i thought i wanna purchase another pair of Seven for mankind but the colour that i really want is nowhere!!And my friend Joe Yin advise me to go for Khakis. Great. As i need to really change my pants type, I just follow her suggestion.I found this A khakis (lets put a name) that really catch my attention but unlucky not in my size. The good thing is, this A khakis material is similar to jeans so no no.Then, I found another khakis, B. I really like the materials. It is soft, but not really soft and the most important thing is that the material is not stretchable. I just grab my size and tried it on and paid for it. Mission accomplish.ghd
